FAQ
Upcoming Changes to .ART Domain Pricing
1. Why are the renewal prices for. ART domains increasing?
Periodic price adjustments are a normal part of business and essential for us to continually invest in providing you with high-quality services and expanding the value of the .ART community. This adjustment follows our recent restructuring where over one million domains were reclassified from premium to standard, significantly reducing their registration and renewal costs. These changes allow us to sustain and enhance the .ART offerings in line with industry standards and investment in innovations such as Web3 capability and the ID.art platform.
2. What are the new renewal prices for .ART domains?
As of May 22nd 2024, the renewal prices will be adjusted as well as the create (first year) price for standard domains. While .ART Registry sets the wholesale price, the retail prices registrants pay are set by the registrars and may vary by registrar. We recommend reaching out to your registrar for the most accurate and current pricing details.
3. How will this price change affect me?
If you’re an existing customer, you may notice an increase in the renewal price of your .ART domain. We recommend reviewing your renewal options with your registrar, as they may offer early renewal or multi-year registrations at current or discounted prices. The revised pricing reflects the robust ecosystem and enhanced services that come with a .ART domain.
4. Why is my renewal price higher than my initial registration price?
First-year registration fees are often discounted as an introductory offer for both standard and premium domains. This means that the first-year registration cost for a standard name or an affordable premium .ART domain could be lower than the renewal price. Such promotions are designed to make it easier for new users to join the .ART community.
5. How can I avoid paying the increased renewal price?
You can lock in current prices by renewing your domain early or opting for a multi-year renewal through your registrar before May 22. This is an excellent way to manage costs while continuing to enjoy the long term benefits of your .ART domain.
6. Will the increase in renewal prices affect the value I get from my .ART domain?
Absolutely not. The increase in renewal prices is part of our commitment to significantly enhance the domain’s value through better services, support, and new tools for artists and creatives to showcase their work globally. We are dedicated to enriching the .ART community and these enhancements are designed to ensure that .ART remains a prestigious and advantageous platform for artists and creators worldwide.
7. How do registrars determine the retail price of .ART domains?
Retail prices are set by individual registrars and can vary based on additional services they provide. We set the wholesale prices, and from there, registrars determine the final cost to customers based on their business models and included services.
8. What if I have concerns about these changes?
We understand that changes in pricing can be concerning. We encourage you to reach out to your registrar to discuss your options, or you can contact our support team at info@art.art.
We’re here to help you navigate these changes and ensure you continue to benefit from your .ART domain.
9. Has the average price of a registered .ART domain changed with these adjustments?
Yes, it has been reduced. With over one million premium names moved to the standard tier and the recent adjustments to renewal fees, the average price of a registered .ART domain is actually lower than it was in 2023. These changes reflect our commitment to making .ART domains more accessible while enhancing the overall value of the .ART community.
