MyMiniFactory (MMF) is the leading community of 3D designers who share free and paid guaranteed 3d printable models, objects and designs. Under the umbrella of MMF, Johnathan Beck launched Scan the World. Scan the World (StW) as an ambitious community-built initiative whose mission is to share 3D printable sculpture and cultural artefacts using democratized 3D scanning technologies, producing an extensive ecosystem of free to download digital cultural heritage.
DotART goal is to facilitate access to advances in science and technology for the arts community. That is achieved through the provision of tools that enable services for art objects while turning them into valuable and liquid digital assets. Chengxi talks about MMF and StW, the digitization of culture and the similarities dotART and StW share when it comes to making the culture more accessible and transparent for the broader audiences.
Members of StW community are located all across the globe, each contributing the scans of cultural artefacts in their local area. There are dozens of museums as partners of StW, and recently Google Arts and Culture, as well as Wikipedia, joined the ranks.
