The Perfect Holiday Gift for Artists: .ART Domain and Website

Why a .ART Domain Is a Gift for Creatives

Often times, the hardest step of any project is the first—just getting started. Whether it’s updating your portfolio or simply making your website, some artistic tasks just feel daunting enough to put off. In my own case, setting up a website only felt feasible when I demystified the process. Using a website builder and registering a unique .ART domain set up a strong foundation for my portfolio to flourish. To this day, my website is one of my most treasured online creations.

With the holidays just around the corner, it might be time to give yourself a gift: the gift of creative flourishing. Or, in more practical terms, a professional online presence.

Setting up a website can seem harder than it is. You might not know where to begin, what to include, and how to make it stand out. One of the reasons I love working at .ART is because of our feverish commitment to making art a tool that everyone can harness. Our goal is to make the digital universe a little less complicated to parse through. In other words, we bring the tech, you bring the art. So, how can you get started?

Step 1: Register Your Unique .ART Domain

First, register a unique .ART domain at get.art or your preferred registrar (i.e GoDaddy, Name.com, etc.). People often ask why they’d need a .ART domain instead of something they feel is more mainstream, like .com. To this, I say that .ART is a community of creatives and art lovers who are fostering the future of art. Our use of .ART domains is a pledge to our artistic aspirations and a signal to the world—that we are, indeed, artists. If that’s not convincing enough, just know that award winning actress Sharon Stone uses one for her website.

Step 2: Build Your Website with a Free Website Builder

The next step is setting up the actual website. You’ll be happy to discover that registering a .ART domain at get.art gives you a complimentary website builder. That’s right, folks: you get to build your website for FREE! We offer user-friendly templates that allow you to simply upload and share your wonderful work. Watch our step by step tutorial here:

Step 3: Connect Your Domain and Website with Ease

Now, if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, you can try other website builders. Popular (paid) platforms include Wix, SquareSpace, Cargo.site, and now even Canva! For my website, rachelsuley.art, I used Cargo.Site. From here, you can simply attach your .art domain to your website builder. If you’ve registered a domain at get.art, you can do this through the client area once you login. Other registrars likely have a step-by-step guide to help you through the process, like this one at GoDaddy.

And voila! You’ve taken the daring leap into finalizing your online presence and fortifying your dedication to your artistry.

Your Website: A Gift to Yourself and Your Art

Setting up a website isn’t just something to cross off the laundry list—it’s a service to yourself, your career, and the future of your art. By taking that first step, registering that domain, perhaps even using .ART’s free website builder, you’re committing to your creative flourishing. So, if this holiday season means getting gifts for everyone you love, make sure to include yourself on that list and commit to your art.
