Warhol’s Interview Magazine Shut Down

After incredibly turbulent few months, Andy Warhol-founded art and culture Interview magazine closed down.

Since February, the company has been unceremoniously evicted from its leased premises in Soho, faced a number of lawsuits from former employees and dealt with allegations regarding employee misconduct and sexual harassment.

All of that aside, Interview has had an exceptionally successful reign since it was founded almost half a century ago in 1969. Interview was known as “The Crystal Ball of Pop” during its glory days and has enjoyed enormous success as a result of its intimate interviews with cult figures and its more recent showcasing of stylists, photographers and art stylists. Its iconic photography style and presentation were at the forefront of its success under the creative guidance of founder Andy Warhol. Interview continued to enjoy considerable success after Andy Warhol’s death in 1987. It was acquired by Peter Brant in 1989 and has enjoyed almost 30 additional years with its cult-like following and in-crowd edge. Management of the company has changed hands a number of times since Brant’s acquisition, largely as a result of the tempestuous relationship between him and his ex-wife. Unfortunately, it seems as though the colorful history of this classic magazine has now come to an end.

We’ve put together a compilation of the memorable magazine covers to pay our tributes to the end of the Interview-era.
