Why I Switched to a .ART Domain—And Why You Should Too

Before I started working for .ART, I never seriously considered the significance of my domain. I used something complicated and overwhelming like rachelsuley.subdomain.somethingelse for ages. It was unprofessional, undiscoverable, and worst of all, impossible to share. But, after using my .ART domain (www.RachelSuley.art) for almost 2 years now, I can proudly report that it’s not just a good look—it’s an investment in myself.

Why I needed a .ART domain

There are a lot of reasons for which I prefer my .ART domain. For one, I’m not selling a product, so I never felt drawn to a .COM. My website also features a variety of my work; from short films to writing samples, my website showcases all of my art. And, each one of those displayed highlights are pieces I’m incredibly proud of, which is why I want to make them as discoverable as possible.

Imagine curating a gallery of everything you want to share, but the gallery’s location is impossible to find. Unless you’re a self-indulged recluse, I’m guessing that doesn’t seem so advantageous–especially when it comes to selling your art.

What are the benefits of a .ART domain?

Artist Shantell Martin uses a .ART domain for her main website (www.ShantellMartin.art) and for her podcast (www.WhatsThePoint.art)

Since starting at .ART, I’ve learned of quite a few benefits to using a .ART domain. Here’s my list:

  1. It’s memorable
    1. In a sea of .COMs, you’re going to stand out when you mention a domain as unique as your art
  2. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) (Imperative for creatives selling their work)
    1. A .ART domain makes your work easier to find. Search engines prioritize relevant keywords, meaning more eyes on your art and more opportunities for you
  3. It’s not just for websites
    1. If you think it’s a pain to make a website just to use a special domain like .ART, save yourself the anxiety and link it to your socials where some of your art is being shared anyway
  4. On the matter of websites…
    1. We offer a free website builder. I’d be remiss not to mention it takes literally seconds to upload your work and create the professional online presence you might be missing out on

We’re a community

One thing I love about being part of the .ART family is that it’s a community of creatives, artists, institutions, and more. We have a range of users, from tattoo artists to NFT collectors, from sustainable fashion designers to spicemakers—we’re an incredibly diverse family of ambitious creators.

.ART provides EXCLUSIVE webinars for domain users, such as an upcoming webinar on grant writing

To celebrate this community, .ART offers EXCLUSIVE webinars that give practical advice such as mastering your artist statement and writing grant applications (sign up!!). We’re always featuring industry professionals that guide viewers on these subjects, empowering artists with knowledge to make the most of their online presence.

Conclusion

In the era of all things digital, it becomes increasingly important to have an online presence. In my opinion, everyone with access to the internet has two choices: the space you take up digitally can either look scrambled and unintentional or it can serve as a thoughtful representation of who you are, what you make, and what you can offer to the world.

Your art deserves to be seen. Your audience deserves to find you. Don’t let your online presence be an afterthought—invest in yourself and secure your .ART domain now: https://get.art
