.ART Gets Approval from the Chinese Government

23 Jan 2018 (London, UK) – .ART is delighted to announce that it has received an official approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (“MIIT”) of the People’s Republic of China for operating the .ART domain name registry within the country. This approval now allows all Chinese online users to build websites using .ART domains.

Chinese art culture combines the old and the new: first, as home to the world’s most ancient  treasures; and second, where China led 2017 global auction sales in art and antiques. The most recent Art Basel and UBS Global Art Market Report indicated Chinese auction sales accounted for 34% of the world total by value, exceeding the US, which recorded 32%, and Britain, at 18%.

With this approval in place, the .ART registry will work closely with the Chinese art community to protect its values, intellectual property and creative objectives. The .ART registry will also work with the Chinese domain name industry in order to bring new digital tools to the art community and provide new ways of bringing art to the public.

.ART  is a top-level domain name that strives for bringing new innovations and cultivating the online art community. We look forward to a long and successful working relationship with Chinese users.
