1. Art by Anish Kapoor and David Bailey for sale as NFTs without their consent

British curator Ben Moore is being accused of NFT theft. Moore is facing claims that he made NFTs of works by various artists, including Anish Kapoor, without the creators’ permission. Back in 2013, Moore worked with Kapoor, Damien Hirst, David Bailey and others for a charity project called Art Wars, for which artists applied their signature styles to Stormtrooper helmets. Last week, Moore launched a new initiative, also called Art Wars, that sold pictures of the works made for the 2013 project as NFTs. According to Financial Times, more than $6 million has traded hands for the 1,138 available NFTs to date. Some of the artists involved are now pursuing legal action against Art Wars.

2. Givenchy Enters The World Of NFTs With A New Collection Of 15 NFTs In Collaboration With Artist Chito

The French luxury brand has teamed up with Mexico-based airbrush artist Chito to create an exclusive collection of 15 NFTs. The “Chito x Givenchy NFT” collection features an array of cartoonish characters and symbols, some of which are animated, and others bearing the Givenchy logo. The collaboration is a follow-up to the fashion brand’s Spring 2022 pre-collection, for which designer Matthew M. Williams had tapped Chito to create an array of graphic prints for his streetwear-adjacent pieces and accessories.

3. Christie’s teams up with OpenSea to auction Ethereum NFTs

Renowned auction house Christie’s has joined hands with leading NFT marketplace OpenSea to auction a series of curated Ethereum-based NFTs. Christie’s disclosed this news through a tweet on November 23, noting that the NFTs would drop on December 1. The auction house noted that collectors will be free to browse through the collection starting December 1 until December 3. Bidding will commence on the fourth of December and run until the seventh. Reportedly, OpenSea will host the auction, and bidding will be in Ethereum (ETH).

4. Frida Kahlo Joins Top-Selling Women Artists with $34.9 Million Sotheby’s Sale

Frida Kahlo, the Mexican artist whose iconic face is plastered on everything from coffee mugs to pillows, made yet another splash in the art world this month when her self-portrait, entitled “Diego and I,” sold at auction for $34.9 million. While Kahlo set a new record for Latin American artists, regardless of gender, female artists have historically struggled to be taken as seriously as their male counterparts, who have for centuries dominated the art market.
