Artificial intelligence (AI) is an area of computer science that emphasizes the creation of intelligent machines that work and react like humans. And, frankly, it’s all we hear about in the last few years. Just like blockchain, AI is penetrating every sphere of life possible. How AI is changing politics, parenting, sex – all those are valid topics.

But here’s the thing to remember on April 1st. Alexa and Siri can tell jokes mined from a humor database, but they don’t get them. Humor is what makes humans special. When people try to teach machines what’s funny, the results are always amusing but rarely what they were intended to be.

Here’s a little Picasso joke Siri might not get, but artists all over the world surely will.

A woman is walking through the streets of Paris when she spots Picasso sitting at a cafe drinking coffee. She is overcome with the urge to approach him.

“Oh, Monsieur Picasso! I’m such a huge fan of your work. I hate to bother you, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t take the opportunity to ask if you might make a portrait of me. Please, it would mean so very much to me. I’d pay you gladly for it!”

Picasso agrees, and the woman sits with him. He pulls out a sheet of paper and a pencil, and in a few moments, she has her very own Picasso.

“Oh!” she gushes, “It is so beautiful, I’m so honored. I will cherish this forever! Now what do I owe you?”

“Fifteen thousand francs.” says the artist.

“FIFTEEN THOUSAND FRANCS?!? But it only took you three minutes!” she protests.

“No, madam, it took me my entire life.”

Despite technological limitations at .ART we are trying to combine humour and AI, so we now have our own .ART bot, which is now focusing on generating an AI-based understanding of digital art and artistic personality. We would like for all of you to help! Data gets better with volume, and so we need as much input as we can get. Take a selfie and tag the @artdomains Instargam account to help our .ART bot collect data for a new research on distinctive facial features of creatives. Data collection will go on until April 8th, when the bot will analyze the data, combine it with the historical database of artists’ portraits and photographs, and conclude which of the selfies looks like the most creative one! The winner will get bestface.art domain as a gift and an opportunity to be featured on our social media!
