Amidst global lockdown, Reikhan Kasimova, co-founder of .art Domains, has called everyone to show appreciation for the medical workers and express it through art. Using any medium, whether watercolour, pencil or iPad, the public was asked to draw flowers as a “thank you” to those who have been protecting our communities. The flashmob picked up globally: thousands of artists, graphic designers, gardeners and members of the public sent in images of flowers under the hashtags #FlowersForMedics, #Flowers4Medics and #FlowersForDoctors.
After receiving global recognition on social media platforms, the flashmob was picked up by a number of museums and galleries. One of the first was The Multimedia Art Museum of Moscow, headed by Olga Sviblova, recipient of Officer of Legion d’Honeur of France and twice the curator of the national pavilion of Russia at the Venice Biennale.

The FlowersForMedics exhibition of all the collected works was launched as part of the XIII Moscow International Month of Photography «Photobiennale – 2020». The opening was attended by dozens of doctors and social workers, who can now enjoy free entry to the museum. To underline the importance of such an initiative on a global scale, Pierre Levy, French Ambassador to Russia, gave an opening speech congratulating MAMM and .art Domains on the successful launch.
At the end of the exhibition, all of the artworks on display will be auctioned. Proceeds will be divided between families of doctors and health workers who passed away during the pandemic and artists who found themselves socially unprotected during this challenging time.
The exhibition can be seen at MAMM through October 18th, 2020.
